Iced Earth is easily one of my favorite bands of all time and this record is a perfect example of their sound. This album has a little bit of everything: Fast, thrash songs full of heavy riffs, awesome acoustic songs, and songs that start out slow but end up getting fast. What is so great about this cd is that it flows so well from track to track. It's like the band just sat down and recorded the songs in order, back to back with no problems or rest at all. John is one of the greatest rhythm guitar players and this cd shows off his, thick, quick, percise riffs. Barlow can go to a thrashing growl to a melodic singing voice like no body's business. The songs are just the right length, not too short or too long. The last three tracks is the something wicked trilogy and listening to them in order is great. The bass and drums pound away and add to the urgency and speed of the faster songs. Track 9(1776) is an instrumental track and I was quite suprised by it because most instrumentals below seven minutes are not very good but this one is really really great. The lyrics are another highlight. Although not a concept album, each song on here is sort of a like a story. The chorus' on the cd are amazing and make the songs really shine through. My favorite songs on this album would be: Disicples Of The Lie, My Own Savior, Birth Of The Wicked, Consequences & Watching Over Me(the only two songs that are ballads on this cd). But you will want to listen to the whole album because it's so fast paced and well organized that it goes by like a flash and you'll want to hear it again. Excellent cd, I give it my highest recommendation. I highy suggest buying this album.
