Iced Earth-a modern metal band actually worth listening to

I used to see ads for Iced Earth in magazines and just blow them off as another [bad] nu-metal band. Boy was I wrong!!! Being a fan of "old school" metal bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, I have no tolerance for bands these days that try to call themselves metal. Iced Earth is not one of these bands. I recently bought "Something Wicked This Way Comes" with the live album, "Alive in Athens"; they are now the best two albums I own. SWTWC is a great album start to finish. Let me take you through the tracks.

Burning Times:A great album opener! Killer rhythm.

Melancholy(Holy Martyr):This is a beautiful ballad. Great music and lyrics. This is now my favorite IE song.

Disciples of the Lie:Don't you hate it when a good album has one song on it that you just don't like. I usually skip this one.

Watching Over Me:A heartfelt ballad about a friend of Jon Schaffer's that died in a motorcycle accident. The live version makes you wanna cry.

Stand Alone:Good rhythm, and the lyrics have a good message about thinking for yourself.

Consequences:I love the acoustic guitar rhythm in this song. This one also has a good message.

My Own Savior: Pretty good song. It's got your generic metal lyrics. I like the chorus though.

Reaping stone:I like the intro a lot, but the rest of the song doesn't really fit the tone of the album. Reminds me of Metal Church

1776:It feels good to know that at least one band can still pull off a good instrumental. It's short but damn is it sweet.

Blessed Are You:A song with a beautiful acoustic verse and a killer chorus rhythm. I love the acoustic lead fills during the verse. Great lyrics too.

Prophecy:The last three songs are worth the asking price alone!!! They are all based on a concept of an evil one coming to earth. This song is awesome start to finish!!

Birth of the Wicked: An awesome song about the birth of the wicked one. This is what true metal is!!!

The Coming Curse:The best song on the album!!! It starts with a piano intro that sets the mood for an excellent song.

Well that's it. I suggest if you are a fan of old metal, but want something new to listen to, get into Iced Earth. I've heard their other albums are great too, and can't wait till I get my hands on em'.
