Iced Earth is probably the best band in the American thrash-power scene, and this album is probably what Modern Thrash should be defined with. It has speed, power, anger, sadness, and a trilogy about the Anti-Christ, what else could you possibly ask for? The album starts off with: Burning Times (9.5/10), an awesome and heavy song, going into the calmer Melancholy (9/10), a song about Jesus, which reminds of "Gethsemane" from Jesus Christ Superstar. Next is Disciple of Lies (8/10), followed by the beautiful and saddening ballad Watching Over Me (10/10). Stand Alone (8.5), Consequences (9), and My Own Savior (10/10) are all hard hitting and angry. 1776 is an awesome instrumental, the subsequent Blessed Are You (9.5) is one of the best. The album closes magnificently by the Something Wicked Trilogy, started with Prophecy (9), then the powerful Birth of the Wicked (9.5) highlighted by the 9-minute The Coming Curse (10). All in all, this album should be in any Iced Earth and/or Thrash fan's library.
