Well, for about 3 years I have been surfing around amazon expanding my music collection. I went from metallica to in flames to dimmu borgir to evoken. However, somewhere along the line I found a very interesting band (any guesses?). Yep, Iced Earth. For me at least, their music seemed very awkward at first. I attribute that to the singer's unusual voice, and after hearing a few songs from Horror Show i dismissed the band and moved on. Big mistake! But about a year ago I happened to see SWTWC in a music store. Thinking that my music tastes had improved (or at least hardened) i bought the cd. What a worthwhile purchase, but enough about me, let's get to the music... This cd has an amazing beginning. Burning Times is one of the best songs on the cd (though there are so many great songs that there is not one "best"). Not very fast, but heavy and somewhat melodic (a lot of the guitar part is reminiscent of Zakk Wylde). Next comes an enjoyable ballad. Not the best here, but still a great song. Desciples comes blaring on with blistering speed and raw energy. Probably my least favorite song, but not a bad listen. Watching...is a very moving ballad with emotional lyrics, and a great sound. Taking into consideration the time i've already wasted, and the amount of tracks left, I'll just skip to the highlights. My Own Savior: Fast-paced, heavy, melodic, has it all... 1776: Interesting instrumental...placed perfectly in the cd... Blessed Are You: Best ballad on here, one of the best songs, incredible (reminds me of the Maiden song, Children of the Damned) And of course the trilogy alone is worth the purchase of the cd. I would suggest this cd to those who are not yet familiar with Iced Earth's style. This is the most melodic cd of their's that I've heard, and is just a fun disc to listen to.
