In the spot where this review now stands there used to be a quite insulting piece about how Iced Earth's second record, Night of the Stormrider, really (...). But no more! I didn't like Iced Earth very much at first because they lack the melody of most sword-and-sorcery power metal bands and go more for the thrash, but they grew on me, mostly after I heard their latest "Horror Show" album.

So here it is...Night of the Stormrider is for people who like really fast, thrashy metal, but not necessarily your average power metal fan. Iced Earth doesn't write a lot of music I would describe as catchy, but that doesn't mean they are not a great band. Jon Schaffer, in addition to writing what has to be some of the best American metal ever, tears out the fastest power-chord riffs in the history of man.

John Greely is the vocalist here, and he's not as good as Matt Barlow or as much fun as Gene Adam, but he adds the needed effect to songs like "Pure Evil" and "The Path I Choose."
