How could I have missed a review on this one?!?! My headline up above, refers to the fact that in the very beginning of Iced Earth, when they were playing in bars, this was in sense what they were singing about. And if you have the interview disc with Jon Schaffer, he explains how in the early days all their shows were really 'splatter' shows, in salute to all the horror genre stuff they have always loved, movies and such, which heads right into this recording. This was something the band had always wanted to do: a concept-type album based around all their favorite movie monsters, and horror movies. Each song-as you can see-is the band's take on a different one; with the exception of, Dragon's Child, being about The Creature From The Black Lagoon, not really having a name that would work in the CD, they opted for, Dragon's Child. One of my favorite picks off the CD, also. Not much more to say here, except that it's a 5 star masterpiece rating: this band can do no wrong it seems. Anyone who liked any other Iced Earth, will not be disappointed with this one. Killer pick songs, all of them! But check these out: Jack, Ghost of Freedom (Their best power ballad, I think), IM-HO-TEP (The Mummy movies), Dragon's Child, Transylvania (massive cover of the Maiden classic on the bonus disc!), and don't miss the long interview with Jon Schaffer: he gets into EVERY aspect of Iced Earth, and you learn stuff every die-hard fan should know.
