I can't decide if I like this one or something wicked this way comes better but this is easily one of my favorite all time albums. This is easily their heaviest album and some of their best drumming is here. Richard Christy from Death and Control Denied is the drummer here and he shows off, making the songs only better. Double bass is the name of the game on this album. Very few bass players actually matter but Steve Digirio(spelling?) from Testament is a excellent bass player. Excellent, Excellent bass lines here, folks. With the addition of being Iced Earth's heaviest offering, it's also one of their most power metalish sounding releases. Probably the most power metal like since Night Of The Stormrider. This cd is mostly just chugging thrash like rhythm, courtesy of Jon Shaffer(spelling?). There is a few solos and they, like in any other iced earth cd, are very tight and sound great. They may be sorta short sometimes but Iced Earth has never been about guitar solos. They put them in when needed and it comes off very good. Iced Earth is about playing good, heavy metal with a melodic edge and power metal tendencies. If you've never heard them before then I highly suggest this album or something wicked this way comes. Better yet, get them both. If you want a good idea as to what Iced Earth sound then think Iron Maiden mixed with Metallica but heavier than maiden and better than metallica. This album could have been very cheesy since it's based up on monster/horror folklore and movies but the lyrics are surprisingly well written and intelligent. I'll admit that this sounds like a concept a 15 year old would come up with but it comes off very, very, mature. The only song on here I really can't get into is Jeckyl and Hyde. It's OK but I always skip it. However, I never skip the other ten tracks. All the songs rule. I highly, highy, recommend this amazing album. I would also like to say that I have read reviews here were people say this is a concept album. This isn't a concept album. A concept album tells a story, with each song continuing the story. These songs on horror show do not continue any sort of story. Each one is their own individual story. Also, in addition to the excellent cover art, the inside booklet features some very cool artwork as well.
