It's surprising that Days of Purgatory is considered the best of Iced Earth. This was the first CD I bought from the band and it nearly killed them for me. Every song sounds the same, and I never thought I'd say this of any metal band, but after a while, it gets kinda noisy. However, and this is a huge however, everything else I heard from Iced Earth ranks amongst the best CDs I'll ever hear. Burnt Offerings, The Dark Saga and Something Wicked This Way Comes are incredible. These three CDs make make Metallica look like the Pet Shop Boys (seriously), and why Iced Earth only seem to chart respectably in Turkey is ridiculous. What this says about America's taste in music is far from good. If any band deserves mass attention, Iced Earth is it. Their songs hit hard with raw power and an emotion not often felt by such a progressive band. None of this sophisticated talent is apparent on Days of Purgatory. It's a crying shame if this is where you choose to start listening to one of the world's most powerful rock bands. You'd be wise to go for the others.
