This has to be Iced Earth's Darkest album, the music itself has an eerie heavy feel, as well as the lyrics. Jon Schaffer's lyrics on this album are dark and gloomy, with him dealing with hard times from the record company, along with a few dark fantasy songs in it as well. With long complex songs, and different layers of music from galloping rythem guitars, to eerie sounding, organ like keyboards, to acoustic guitars adds a unique sound then the previous Iced Earth records. Matt Barlow also was a great choice for a vocalist, from deep death metal like growls to high pitch screams gives the music an atmosphere that John Greeley would never have been able to do. This would be a perfect place to start for people who are just getting into Iced Earth and an essential to people who are already Iced Earth fans.
