This CD exceeded my expectations, which were insanely high after Somewhere Out in Space and PowerPlant. What really shocked me on this album are the two songs written by Zimmerman, they are incredible. Sure Zimmerman has written good songs before, but one listen to Damn the Machine and I am a lifelong fan. What an incredibly cool song. Hansen delivers his usual barrage of incredible tunes. And for those of you who liked the sci-fi themes Hansen had in many of his songs check out Solid, another awesome "humans will persevere over anything and anyone" song like Anywhere in the Galaxy was on PowerPlant.

Also, this album is heavier than previous albums, the guitars are more gutteral and Zimmermans Damn the Machine is the perfect example of this new sound. It hits you hard and never slows down till the very end. There is only one "quieter" song at the end of the album by Richter called Lake of Tears.

For those of you who have never heard a Gamma Ray album before, I am actually a little hesitant to recommend this one. Not because it isn't excellent, but maybe because it might be the best Gamma Ray album yet. And as such, enjoyment of the incredible previous albums would be brought down a notch which would be a real shame. I would recommend getting them in order starting with Land of the Free, then Somewhere Out in Space, then PowerPlant and then this album.

One more thing. Heart of the Unicorn is a Painkiller rip-off? Yeah ok. Seriously, I can't hear the resemblence and I must of listened to Painkiller several hundred times when it came out.

Anyway, you can't go wrong buying this album. It will blow you away. If your expectations are high for this one, fear not they have been met, and THEN SOME !!!!
