Leftovers???

Have you ever watched a DVD and checked out the 'Deleted Scenes' section? Have you ever noticed that those deleted scenes were left out for good reason? Well anyway, that's what Theatre of Salvation essentially is - leftovers that didn't quite make the cut for a better album. At least that's what my assumption is...
"Avantasia: The Metal Opera", which was released 12 months after "Theater of Salvation" is a masterpiece to say the least. Both outfits are pretty much led by Tobias Sammet, and I imagine he took his best compositions from Theater and saved them for Avantasia. How else do you explain the downhill slump that this CD is? Theater of Salvation is a waste of effort, and since it doesn't improve upon "Vain Glory Opera" (which had potential to be a classic), and instead prove that evolution can go in reverse, I can only recommend but to avoid this CD. Just skip this and go straight to Avantasia.
I generally like Edguy (indeed "Out of Control" from VGO is one of the best metal songs ever written), and I do see the genius in Tobias Sammet on his orchestrations in Avantasia, but I'm in mixed minds about spending the cash on the other Edguy CD, "Mandrake" because of this poor attempt in Theater. And since all their CD's are only available on import in the USA, and therefore extremely costly, I would suggest being wary in how you part with your pennies (unless you were buying Avantasia which is worth it's weight in gold).
