First of all, I'm not just a casual fan. I love Edguy. They are my favorite metal band ever. I think Tobias Sammet is a genius. From Vain Glory Opera through Mandrake, and his masterpieces, Avantasia Parts 1 and 2, his work is inspired. Second to none. Instrumentals fantastic, great lyrics, awesome choruses. Anyway, I was highly anticipating the release of their upcoming album and this single. But was I surprised and disappointed when I got this single and played it yesterday. This is not Edguy. The title track of the single, King Of Fools, does not sound like Edguy in the least. Actually, the choruses are Edguy-ish, that's about it. But they use a heavier guitar sound (kind of like the guitar from the newer Judas Priest albums - Yuk!) and Sammet even uses a voice distortion. It does not sound like Edguy. "New Age Messiah" starts out sounding like a typical Edguy song, still not a GREAT Edguy song. But Tobias ruins the song at the end, with loads of profanity and a lyric that would offend even the most avid fan: "...who the f-ing f- is Jesus". I know Tobias is talking about someone who got so famous that he's thinks he's some sort of god, but still this lyric is very offensive. "Savage Union" also uses the F-word, as does "Life and Times of a bonus track" (which is funny, but a pretty horrible song). In all of Edguys previous songs, only one, "No More Foolin'" had used the F-word. Now swearing a lot might be ok for no talent bands like Rage Against The Machine or Limp Bizkit, but not for a great band like Edguy. Has Tobias finally run out of ideas and all he can think of writing about is how he hates the world and swear about it? I could forgive some swearing if the songs were fantastic (like "No More Foolin"), but they aren't. This album was a deep disappointment for a big Edguy fan like me. Edguy fans like them because of how they've sounded in their previouse masterpieces. Why change what's perfect? Let's just hope they picked all their worst songs for this single, and in March I can write a review for "Hellfire Club" saying what an unbelievable band they are. Unfortunately I know one song on the album will be subpar, King of Fools. Oh and if you read this Tobias Sammet, wash your mouth out with soap. Curse words are not for Edguy, it sounds like sh--.
