When I heard Follow The Reaper I was so blown away that I thought "No way could they have made an even better album". Quite frankly they haven't. But on the upside, this is still a much better album than most of what is out there. As always, the music has a really addictive nature, Alexi Laiho's amazing vocals and guitar leads are what really do it. Janne Warman's talent feels a little repressed here - his keyboard leads are faster, better and more fluent (not to mention more frequent) on Follow The Reaper. Very often his keyboards take the back seat until a bridge comes. But he still does a great job when he's called for. The rest of the band aren't so mindblowing, but they still all do a great job in the rythm department. My favourite songs would have to be the opener Warheart and the closer Downfall. If it sounds like I'm slagging this album, I'm not. Far from it - it's a more than worthy addition to any metaller's collection. It's just that Bodom have such an amazing effect on you when you first hear them so when you buy another one of their albums that effect is obviously not gonna be there. You can't be surprised or blown away by something when you know what to expect. After much listening I've decided that Follow.. is definately the better album anyway, meaning that something that is not as good has to live up it. And if its not as good then it simply can't do that. I don't mean to put anyone off. In fact, I recommend you BUY THIS ALBUM FIRST so that you can really appreciate it more, and then go on to buy Follow The Reaper. If it weren't for Follow The Reaper (near masterpiece) then I may like this more. All in all though, its still an excellent performance by one of the most talented bands in extreme metal.
