...pseudo techinal metal

people tend to hype this album and I for one can't see the point. Mixing pseudo-techninal playing, mindless baroque passages and guitar jerking with two-dimensional use of extreme metal tricks isn't my idea of what metal or music in general should be. The songs lack any natural flow and what's more important, the songs are simply bad with few nice riffs here and there.

I don't mind technical playing but I wan't to hear it performed by bit more professional individuals. Drumplaying on this record is simply embarrasing when compared to some truly imagative and technical players like hoglan, reinert or indeed any of the guys in Death.

It's kinda ridiculous that there's still need to overuse and abuse these tired classical music manners. some bands manage to combine these two different worlds in their music but making it an excuse for pathetic soloing is hardly that imaginative.

last but not least is laiho's horrible vocals that are said to be performed in "black metal" way. The vocals aren't one bit brutal or aggressive and most bm bands' vocals are way better. Extreme vocals are done badly are only an excuse for not finding a proper singer. The lyrics are about teenage angst without even a hint of anything called self-irony

"iron maiden meets emperor" is hardly accurate as even the good ol' irons are far more aggressive, techinal and in a word better than bodom. Emperor's mixture of extreme metal heroics and classical bombasm is superior and i feel bothered when i even have to mention these two bands in the same paragraph. "match rock of dream theater meets europe's ear for lame...melodism with your oh so angry teenage brother on vocals" more likely
