being the owner of follow the reaper and hate crew deathroll (still need something wild, although im sure that's amazing as well) i had high expectations for hatebreeder. children of bodom has always dazzled me with the amazingly fast and complex solos that alexi shreds through, not to mention the dual keyboards and guitar work they have going on. and i must say that hatebreeder, while the rest of the albums come close, is by far my favorite children of bodom cd. every single song is so layered with crazy drum work, bass lines that you can actually hear, and guitar work that puts a lot of death metal to shame, and the keyboards just add to such an atmospheric recording that CoB are almost untouchable. alexi, while he isn't the greatest vocalist in death metal, you have to give him credit for ripping through his manic solos while screaming his lungs out, which very few can do and still sound good. there isnt a bad song on this cd. newcomers to CoB might be caught off gaurd, so be warned...CoB AREN'T trying to be as evil as possible and a lot of their songs seem to have an upbeat flow to them. so if youre expecting something from nile or someone, you may be disapointed, AT FIRST. CoB definetely takes awhile to get used to, so give the cd a few listens before you make your decision on it. hatebreeder, as well as all other CoB albums, just grow on you the more you listen to them. and sure, they may not be the best at pronouncing english, but where is it EVER written that all bands need to speak ENGLISH fluently? or english AT ALL? stop complaining and just enjoy the music. definetely an essential to any metal fan's collection. the.pink.frenchman.
