Some people classify them as "Black Metal" which I believe to be untrue. (The only black metal ive heard is Dimmu Borgir [a band that kinda gives me the creeps with all their anti-christian lyrics and blood drinking] when i saw them live with Children of Bodom, so thats all that i have to go on.

Some people classify them as "Gore Metal" which is completely untrue. Gore metal is disgusting and sick and should be avoided.

These guys are more like progressive death metal, but not progressive in the sense that opeth is. Opeth is a very sophisticated band, Children of Bodom is just pure fun. Ive never had so much fun listening to a band.

The solos on this album are astonishing. They usually start out with some blazingly fast keyboarding, which is followed by some blisteringly fast guitar shredding. It's like the keyboarder and the guitarist are dueling each other, which produces some awesome results.

While the lyrics arent all that great, the lyricist is awesome. Normally death metal is not accessible to someone who is new to metal, because the vocals can be so harsh, but the singer of COB has a somehow friendly and inviting growl instead of just a scary growl. He has a quality to his singing that makes you think that he is just a cool guy who likes to party and drink. I dont know how to describe it, but i just like his voice and In my opinion he has the best vocals in death metal.

Anyway, these songs are all 5-star songs, especially northern comfort, and bodom after midnight. If you like In Flames and Opeth, then try these guys for some really sweet music. Im gonna go see these guys live again in may with Iced Earth and its gonna be awesome, dont miss them if they come to your hometown.
