Wow... I've always been a big Blind Guardian fan, so naturally I was expecting big things when I bought this album. Admittingly, I couldnt' really get into it at first for many of the reasons are criticizing it on this site... I thought it was overproduced and a little TOO complex for it's own good (some of the songs have something like thirty vocal lines!). But then, I was listening to it the other day and it clicked... this was an amazing album!

In fact, I would even go so far as to say that it's even better than their previous masterpiece, NIGHTFALL IN MIDDLE EARTH... that's how good it really is. The power metal in this album is played with such enthusiasm and bombastic energy that you can't help but fall in love with it. Many standout tracks on the album, and "Precious Jerusalem" is one of them (the chorus on that song is incredible). "Under the Ice" is another catchy tune, and "Age of Innocence" is standout. But the real drawing card to this release is the epic of the album... the fourteen minute metal masterpiece that's called "And Then There Was Silence." The band is at the top of it's game here...

NIGHT AT THE OPERA has Blind Guardian at the peak of the career... It'll be interesting to see where band goes from here (any more over-the-top and they would overdo it). In the meantime, we have this amazing metal album to enjoy.
