Well, to start off this is my first review ever.I have been listening to Progressive Rock/Metal for years (I bought the first release of Queen on LP (Ok so they weren't "Metal" but they were innovative), but that is in the past and today is the present future. With bands like Rhapsody,Hammerfall, Nevermore, Angel dust,Dream Theatre, and Pain of Salvation moving in new directions for Metal, there is Blind Guardian who have ventured beyond and are pushing the envelope. This was my first Blind Guardian album and I will admit that I did not like it at first, however I kept listening to it and suddenly, there it was in all of it's glory. Some of the most intricate song structures I've ever heard. The harmonies and melodie changes are amazing.Hansi Kursch is a new millenium bard,(He would be paid a King's ransom in medievil times) his songs are masterpieces of chordal structure and lyrics. If you have never heard Blind Guardian you are missing what I believe are one of the most creative and innovative bands today. (and I'm a huge fan of Dream Theatre , since the beginning) I have since purchased all of Blind Guardians albums and cannot stop listening to them. There is so much depth and emotion and the playing is masssive, yet sutble. From the opening notes of "Precious Jerusalem" to the 14 plus minute of "And then there was silence" you will be taken on a musical journey that will leave you drained for hours! Buy this album, listen to it and keep listening to it , then buy their other albums. You will not regret it.
