Having got into Iced Earth in recent years I decided that I ought to a buy a Blind Guardian CD (given the affiliation) and picked this CD on sale. I stuck this into my CD player and after one listen thought that it was lucky that I did not pay full price! It was initially just "too much", hit too many senses and was not very digestible. A couple of days later I thought I'd try again. Maybe my mind was clear but the absolute awesome drumming hit me. Boy can Thomas Stauch play. The first four songs just came together Precious Jerusalem, Battlefield, the wonderful Under the Ice and Sadly Sings Destiny are just four awesome metal songs that burnt a hole in my CD player for weeks with some truly kick... drumming (OK I got embarrassed a few times being caught playing "air drums"). The next track the Maiden and the Mistrel Knight for me is the only flat spot of the real album (The bonus track Mies del Dolor was another track that I could give a miss to) otherwise I consider the rest of the CD to be brillant. But if you want my opinion (I suppose you do if you are bothering to read this) the best track is in the rest of the CD, the song - Age of Innocence. Kursch's vocals and feel in this song is amazing. Hansi, Andre, Marcus and Thomas I salute you for doing a truly progressive metal album that dared copy the title of Queen's masterpiece and a very funny Marx Bros movie! I also thank you for making it one of the few sale CDs that I have bought that I did not decide to convert as a frisbee to play with my three year old child!
