It has been said about the album that it is a flawed masterpiece. If this is true then A Night At The Opera's (ANATO) flaw is that it's overproduced. It has lot of sounds together and it is technically heavy too,thus fans who like things as straight as possible may find it tiring. However the album features very good and inspired songs and the band's abilities are evident. There is heavy use of choirs and almost constant use of lead guitars in the album and at least technically speaking the guys seem to be on top form.If your favorite Blind Guardian album is Somewhere far Beyond or an album before that most probably you won't enjoy the album. If your fave is Imaginations From The Other Side or Nightfall In Middle Earth you should give a listen to the album to see if it's meant for you. Personally speaking my fave is Nightfall even a year after ANATO's release. I consider ANATO an album worth owning for most Blind Guardian fans. And Then There Was Silence may well be Blind Guardian's best song to date. It is a long song with multiple guitar layers and terrific vocals. Battlefield is a more epic view into BG's music and Under The Ice and Sadly Sings Destiny will become the most asked for songs of the album. Punishment Divine and The Soulforged are inspired and catchy songs too. The Maiden And The Minstrel Knight is a ballad that IMO isn't quite on par with past ballads,unlike Age Of False Innocence which is a top notch one. Wait For An Answer is uneven as has some terrific parts next to typical ones.Finally Mies Del Dolor, the bonus song is Harvest Of Sorrow, an old unreleased till the ATTWS single came out song, sang in Spanish by Hansi and I prefer it in it's British single version. The guitar melody however shows that Marcus should be allowed to compose more often. I gave this album 5 stars because it is a great album on its own,even if I prefer Nightfall... to it. It easilly blows away stuff like Kamelot,Gamma Ray,Stratovarius,Edguy etc
